Build a creative
A creative is an offer that you present to customers. It includes the offer copy (your message) and the responses (actions that the customer can take, including at least one positive option and one negative option). Depending on the type of campaign and the placements, it can also include additional settings, such as a destination URL for traffic campaigns.
Example of a Rokt offer being rendered on a partner website.

Set up a new creative
Log in to your Rokt account.
Navigate to the account you want to add the new campaign to.
Click Campaigns.
Click Overview.
Go to the Creatives tab.
Click New Creative.
Select the campaign that the new creative will link to.
Click Add.
Configure the creative.
Configuration Description Creative name Enter the Creative name. This name won't be displayed in your offers. It will be only used in One Platform. Creative device App Install creatives can only be linked to either Desktop or Mobile audiences. Selecting both will create two creatives for you. Schedule Define the Schedule for your creative - either run continuously or add a start and end date. Preview The Preview is not an input. It just indicates the general presentation of the creative in different types of placements. The actual rendering of the creative including colors and fonts depends on the partner’s placement configuration. Creative copy text Copy is plain text and cannot be formatted. Placeholders may be added. These are replaced by consumer attributes when the creative is rendered. Coupons A coupon code may be included with the creative. These are selected from coupon lists or static coupons which have already been configured in the Campaigns CTA Options This is the text that will appear on the ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ buttons shown to the user. Confirmation message Displays confirmation messaging (e.g 'Confirmation will go to: email') alongside your ad copy when enabled. Only to be used if the customer receives at least one email upon opt in. Confirmation messaging may vary depending on the placement, and may not be supported by all placements. Logo/image Upload a logo file. PNG (recommended) and JPG image formats are supported.
Minimum requirements are described in the wizard. Recommended specifications are:
Dimensions: 1080 x 1080 pixels
Aspect ratio: 1:1
To maximize engagement, see our image guidelines.Brand domains Supply brand domains contained in the offer creative. Note: This may not apply to all creatives.
Some offers contain third-party brands. For example, in the offer “Make a purchase of at least $100 on Kogan, get a $20 iTunes Gift Card,” the brand domains areapple.com
anditunes.com
, but notkogan.com
. Some partners want to exclude offers that contain competing brands.Catalogue creatives In the case of creatives which include a catalog such as “Add to Cart” campaigns, there are many additional creative fields. A catalog creative will include copy that appears once at the top of the creative, as well as copy for each item from the catalog. You can set the minimum and maximum number of catalog items that can appear. The actual number that appears in the creative will depend on what is available when the creative is shown to the customer. Placeholders are used to include values from the catalog, such as the item name and description. Link audiences Select audiences to link to this creative. For App Install campaigns, you can only link audiences that are targeting the same device type. Click Save and Exit or Submit.
If you choose to Submit, select the items to submit and click Submit.
Save or Submit?
The Campaign Wizard allows you to either Save and Exit or Submit your changes to Campaigns, Audiences and Creatives.
Option | Description |
---|---|
Save and Exit | The changes will be treated as Draft. They cannot go live and do not have to comply with validation rules. |
Submit | The changes will be published. They may go live and must comply with all validation rules. |
If “Submit” is chosen, a dialog will open asking which of the added/edited items should be submitted:
There are several rules for submitting items:
- The campaign is implicitly submitted when any item within the campaign is submitted.
- Items which do not meet validation rules cannot be submitted. These items will have a red icon indicating they are invalid.
- If a creative linked to an audience is submitted, without also submitting the audience, then the link will be removed.
Once items are submitted, they will examined by Rokt’s operations teams to determine if they comply with all Rokt’s policies for creatives. If they are approved, then the items will go live.
Edit a creative
An existing creative can only be edited if it's in pending status (i.e., has not yet been reviewed by the Rokt operations team) or disapproved status (i.e., the Rokt operations team has rejected the creative). If your creative was rejected you can still edit it and submit it again for review.
For optimization purposes, Rokt does not allow editing creatives after approval by the Rokt operations team. If you want to edit a creative that has already been approved, you need to build a new creative.
Log in to my.rokt.com.
Navigate to the account you want to add the new audience to.
Click Campaigns.
Go to the Creatives tab.
Identify the creative that you want to edit. Open the three-dot menu next to the creative and click Edit.
Make any edits needed.
Click Submit to save your changes.
Select the items to submit and click Submit. Your updated creative is resubmitted to the Rokt operations team for review.
Link a creative to an audience
For a referral creative to be displayed to users, it must be linked to an active audience.
There is a many-to-many relationship between creatives and audiences, meaning:
- The same creative can be linked to multiple audiences
- Multiple creatives can be linked to the same audience
Creatives and audiences all belong to a campaign. To link or unlink creatives, you first need to select the campaign you are modifying in the Campaigns tab within the Campaigns > Overview page.
Log in to my.rokt.com.
Navigate to the account you want to add the new audience to.
Click Campaigns.
Go to the Creatives tab.
Open the three-dot menu and click Edit.
In the Linked audiences section, search for audiences to link.
When you are satisfied with your selections, click Submit.
Unlink a creative from an audience
Log in to my.rokt.com.
Navigate to the account you want to add the new audience to.
Click Campaigns.
Go to the Creatives tab.
Open the three-dot menu and click Edit.
In the Linked audiences section, click the Unlink icon next to the audience you want to unlink from the creative.
A note on linking vs. status
Linking (or unlinking) creatives and audiences is different from pausing or resuming a creative or pausing or resuming an audience. Specifically:
Linking a creative to an audience associates a creative to an audience. It does not necessarily mean the creative starts receiving impressions for that audience.
- If a creative is paused, linking an audience does not automatically activate the creative.
- If an audience is paused, linking an active creative does not necessarily activate the audience.
- An audience is automatically paused if it has no active creatives linked. Therefore linking an active creative results in the audience becoming active.
- If both a creative and audience are active, the creative starts receiving impressions from that audience as soon as they are linked.
Conversely, unlinking a creative from an audience does not necessarily pause the audience or the creative.
- If a creative is linked to multiple active audiences, and it is unlinked from only one audience, it continues to receive impressions from the active audiences.
- If a creative is linked to only one audience, and it is unlinked from that audience, the creative is automatically paused.
- If the audience is linked to only one active creative, and the active creative is unlinked from the audience, the audience is automatically paused.
Creative performance
Testing your campaign’s creative is a great way to determine if your message is resonating with your target audience. Based on how the creative is performing, you may want to pause a creative to focus your campaign on the best performing creatives.
Take the example of a traffic campaign for a movie streaming service. You have two creatives for the campaign; in Creative A, you address the user as a “music fan,” and in Creative B, you use “music lover.”
Creative | Copy | Engagement rate |
---|---|---|
A | Hey movie fan! Start streaming endless entertainment with a 7-day free trial. | 7% |
B | Hey movie lover! Start streaming endless entertainment with a 7-day free trial. | 14% |
Creative B is performing better than Creative A for your given audience, so you want to pause Creative A and let Creative B run.
