What information is shared with Catalog?
When you install the Rokt Catalog for Brands app, Shopify asks you to approve the data and permissions the app can access. This page explains what Rokt uses each one for.

Here's why Rokt needs each item of customer and store data that Shopify lists. Because this app is a Shopify sales channel, Shopify gives it only the orders it creates on your store, from Marketplace partners and Shoppable Ads.
- Customer contact information: name, email address, and phone number. Rokt uses these to create the orders it places on your store so you can ship them, and you can see them on the order page in the Catalog app. Shoppable Ads orders include the shopper's email when they gave one, so your store can send its usual order and shipping emails. Marketplace orders usually carry a one-time placeholder email address instead of the shopper's own. A partner can choose to pass the shopper's email or its own support email instead. If you run Catalog Ads, Rokt also uses the shopper's email, phone, and name to measure which sales its ads drove, and their email to build your ad audiences, for example to leave existing customers out of ads for new customers or to find new shoppers like your best customers. For Marketplace orders, Rokt uses the shopper's details from the partner's order.
- Customer location: physical address, geolocation, and IP address. Rokt uses the shipping and billing address to place the order on your store, calculate sales tax with your store's tax settings, and quote your shipping rates. If a state is missing, Rokt fills it in from the ZIP code. Orders Rokt places on your store don't carry the shopper's IP address, and Rokt doesn't use the map coordinates Shopify adds to addresses. If you run Catalog Ads, Rokt also uses the billing ZIP code on these orders, with the shopper's name and contact details, to match the sale to the ad that drove it.
- Customer device information: browser and operating system. Orders Rokt places on your store don't carry the shopper's browser details, so Rokt doesn't receive them through this app.
- Store owner contact information: name, email address, and phone number. Rokt saves these from your Shopify store profile and updates them when you change them in Shopify. Your customer support email is the email you enter when you create your Catalog account. Partners can see it, and it can appear on Marketplace packing slips. You can change it in Settings. Rokt uses your contact details to contact you about your account and Rokt's services, to support you, and to understand how stores use the app. Account emails go to teammates who choose to get them, or else to the email you created your Catalog account with.
- Store owner location: physical address. Your store address becomes the business address on your Rokt account. Its country decides how Rokt sets up your Marketplace payouts, and self-serve Catalog Ads setup is available for US stores.
- Order information: the items and value of each order. Rokt uses this to place and track the orders it sends to your store, list them on the Orders page, and pay you for Marketplace sales on the Payouts page. Analytics shows your sales through Rokt Catalog partners. Rokt counts orders per product to find your best sellers, which partners see with a Rokt Catalog's Pick badge. If you run Catalog Ads, Rokt uses this order information to report the sales its ads drove on your Home and Campaigns pages, bill campaigns that charge per sale, suggest your target order value when you create a campaign, and feature your best sellers in your ads.
Rokt receives these details from the moment you install the app and keeps a copy of the orders it places on your store. If you also install the Rokt Network Extension app, for example to run Catalog Ads, Shopify shows that app's data access separately. That app shares all your store's orders, including past orders and the buyer and device details on them, so Rokt can measure which sales its ads drove, build your audiences, find your best sellers, and suggest your target order value. On those orders, Rokt adds the IP address and browser details Shopify records to the shopper's audience profile, to connect a purchase to the same shopper's earlier visits.
Permission DetailsLien direct vers Permission Details
When you install the Rokt Catalog for Brands app, Shopify lists the permissions it asks for. This section explains what Rokt uses each one for on your store. Shopify groups related permissions under one line, so a line can say Edit even when Rokt only reads that data.
This section covers the Rokt Catalog for Brands app. If you also install the Rokt Network Extension app, for example to run Catalog Ads, Shopify lists that app's permissions separately.
The app doesn't have permission to edit your product details or stock levels, and Rokt doesn't change your prices, discounts, or Shopify Markets settings. Orders Rokt places on your store reduce your stock like any other sale.
| Permission on the install screen | What Rokt uses it for |
|---|---|
| View customer data (sensitive data, device and activity data) | Rokt receives the orders it places on your store, including the buyer details on them, and uses them as described in Privacy Details above and in your agreement with Rokt, including the Terms for Rokt Catalog for Brands and the Data Processing Agreement. Rokt's Privacy Policy explains how Rokt handles personal information. |
| View staff and contributor data (store owner) | Your store's contact details and address from your Shopify store profile. Rokt uses them as described under Store owner contact information and Store owner location above. |
| View customers (customer data) | Rokt uses the buyer details on each order as described above. |
| Edit products (inventory, products, product listings, collections) | Rokt reads your catalog, including variants, collections, and stock, to build your ads and listings. The only change it makes to your products in Shopify is adding or removing them on its own Rokt Catalog for Brands sales channel, for example when you list or unlist a product in Rokt. If automatic listing is on and that channel is empty when you install, Rokt adds your active products to it once. |
| Edit orders: orders | When a shopper buys your product through Rokt, Rokt places the order on your store so you ship it as usual. If the shopper's order is canceled or refunded where they bought it, Rokt cancels or refunds the matching order on your store. If Rokt turns on order tagging for your store, it adds a charge reference to these orders' tags. If you run Catalog Ads, Rokt also uses these orders to measure which sales its ads drove. |
| Edit orders: fulfillments | Rokt reads the tracking on your fulfillments and passes it on so the shopper gets it. |
| Edit orders: returns | When a shopper returns an item, Rokt opens the return on your order, adds the return shipping and tracking, and closes or cancels it to match the shopper's return. |
| Edit orders: draft orders | Rokt asks Shopify to calculate sales tax on a cart. The calculation doesn't save a draft order. |
| Edit orders: shipping information | Rokt reads your shipping profiles so shipping charges match your setup. |
| Edit Online Store (checkout page) | To quote live shipping rates, Rokt uses a Storefront API access token on your store to build a temporary checkout or cart and read the rates. Rokt deletes these tokens after use or in a weekly cleanup. Rokt doesn't change your checkout page. |
| Edit other data: locations | Rokt reads your locations to count stock at each one. You choose which locations count toward the stock Rokt uses. This helps keep Rokt from selling or advertising items you can't ship. |
| Edit other data: Shopify Markets settings | Rokt reads your markets and their prices, so retailers in other countries that sell your products see your local price. Rokt doesn't change your Markets settings. |
| Edit other data: publications of products on sales channels | Rokt receives updates about where your products are published. Rokt doesn't currently use them, and it doesn't publish or unpublish your products on your other sales channels. |
| Edit other data: resource feedbacks | After setup, Rokt sends Shopify one status update so your Shopify admin shows the Rokt Catalog for Brands sales channel as set up. |
